Prepare priming sugar solution

Boil 5 ounces (140 grams) of corn sugar in 2 cups (475 milliliters) of water for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, place a lid on top, and leave to cool while you prepare for bottling.

Your local homebrew store may sell priming sugar in bulk or in 5-ounce (140 gram) bags. As you gain experience, you may want to adjust the amount of sugar you use to achieve different carbonation levels for different styles of beer. But when you're just getting started, 5 ounces (140 grams) is a good general-purpose amount.
