Recipe: Scotty’s Froggy Depot XPA

“The aim here is to make a ripping XPA that combines plenty of saturated modern hop characters—thanks in part to the multiple small kettle-hop additions—with a lean but structured malt base,” says Scotty Hargrave, the progenitor of modern XPA.

This recipe represents what Hargrave might brew today, if we were to bust out the old homebrew kit at his Froggy Depot farm in Tuntable Creek, New South Wales. He says it should provide “a soft, generous mouthfeel that evolves across the palate into a clean, dry, moreish finish with plenty of delicious hop flavors and aromas along the way.”
