What it is: Herefordshire in the west of England is unusual in having a significant acreage of both hop bines and cider-apple trees; throw in a generous smattering of ancient perry-pear trees, and you have a globally unique rural landscape. Naturally, Hereford Beer House showcases drinks made from all three. The bar has seven beer taps plus about 300 beers in bottle and can, from local ales to Belgian gueuzes. The two regular draft beers are Anspach & Hobday’s London Black and Tegernseer Hell—the latter served via Czech side-pull tap. A further three taps and about 70 bottles celebrate local cider and perry, with Herefordshire superstars Little Pomona, Olivers, and Ross on Wye taking pride of place.

Why it’s great: Owner Sion Harris ensures that HBH is welcoming and inclusive. The Hereford Amateur Brewers homebrew club calls it their home base, while the local Queers and Beers meetup group formed here in 2024. The community vibe is strong, with staff often frequenting the bar when off-duty and customers coming in to perform and host events. This locally rooted craft-beer mecca is one where everyone can just be themselves.
