What Our Editors Thought
Rich chocolate notes lay over a hint of salty seawater and a bit of almost saison-like fermentation ester. The sip carries that ester forward with soft chocolate notes throughout.
What Our Panel Thought
Soft and unassuming nose with a chocolaty aroma with some ambiguous dark fruits—plum or dark cherry. Pleasant middle-of-the-road stout character with a somewhat earthy, saline note. Flavor is more of the same dark-fruit dominance with a dry, bitter finish. Good balance, medium-bodied with lingering chocolate sweet-ness and a roasted bitter finish.
What the Brewers Say
Brewed using authentic Rappahannock River oysters brought to us by Rappahannock Oyster Company. Those briny bivalves impart a slight salinity that is followed up by rich, roasted chocolate malts and a silky mouth-feel.
