Five years ago, we recorded a video course on brewing modern IPAs with Joe Mohrfeld, brewing director at Pinthouse in Austin. To accompany that course, Mohrfeld shared a homebrew-scale recipe for their flagship IPA, Electric Jellyfish. That recipe has become one of the most-visited on our website… but here’s the thing about modern IPAs: To stay modern, they tend to evolve.
So, when Mohrfeld reached out to us recently offering to share an updated version of the recipe, we didn’t hesitate. However, rather than replace the older recipe with the newer one, we thought it might be more educational to keep both—as an illustration of how even a brewery’s most popular beer can change in five years, following the tastes of its brewers and its fans. And we know Craft Beer & Brewing readers love this beer, since they named it their No. 1 beer of 2025 in our Readers’ Choice poll.
