What it is: To call Pult a craft-beer bar doesn’t do it justice. The first six of its nine Lukr faucets always pour Czech pale lager—and those six always include Budvar, Pilsner Urquell, plus four from lesser-known breweries that deserve more attention. While the remaining three taps feature other styles such as IPA or gose, there are also dozens of bottles in the fridges—Czech craft plus Belgian ales, gueuze, German bocks, and more. A narrow bar with vaulted ceilings, Pult’s design combines modern with classic and shiny, space-age draft tech.
Why it’s great: Despite nods to variety, this is first and foremost a place to get fresh pale lager poured with perfection. Fans of the classics will be content, while the rotating guests offer the chance to try great lagers you might otherwise never have found in Prague. Run by Ambiente, the same company behind the popular Lokál beer halls, snacks are no afterthought—the charcuterie menu runs from tartarák (beef tartare) and smoked sausage to pickled cheese and veggies. The lagers are all the same price—a bit more than $3 a half-liter—a tad high by local standards but fine for its location, just off Náměstí Republiky. Besides, it feels like great value for the loving pours and attention to detail.
