Legacy (barley)
From The Oxford Companion to Beer
is a six-row variety of malting barley grown in western Canada and the United States. It was developed by Busch Agricultural Resources Inc as a cross between 6B86-3517 and Excel. It is considered well adapted to the upper midwest and intermountain areas of the United States and Canada. Legacy was recommended in 2001 as a malting barley by the American Malting Barley Association Inc. Legacy matures slightly later than Robust but produces 5%–9% higher yields. It shows moderate susceptibility to leaf and stem rust and moderate resistance to net blotch; it has an intermediate reaction to Fusarium head blight. Legacy is a protected variety under the Plant Variety Protection Act, which provides patent-like rights to developers of unique plant types including barleys and hops varietals.
