is an old, relatively low-alpha Russian aroma hop of unknown origin and pedigree. It arrived in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Hop Research Center at Corvallis, Oregon, in 1971 as rhizome cuttings from the Institute for Plant Research, Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia), but it was discarded in 1991 because of poor growth and a lack of disease resistance. Serebrianka is also known by the name Silver hop. Perhaps its most important contribution to beer is that it served as one of the ancestors of the American-developed hop variety Cascade, which has become one of the signature hops of many American craft beers.See also cascade (hop).
