What Our Panel Thought
Aroma: “Caramel malt, piney hops, vanilla and caramel oak, bourbon mixed with tobacco, toast crust, and burnt raisin cookies.”
Flavor: “Biscuit, caramel, and toasted malt. Piney, floral, and slightly earthy hops. Noticeable bourbon notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak woodiness. Noticeable boozy heat, but not harsh.”
Overall: “The whole is much better than the sum of the parts. The base brown ale is a bit underwhelming, but the bourbon characteristics salvage it and add some nice layers of additional caramel and vanilla. The subtle resinous hops characteristics cut through any potential sweetness concerns.”
What the Brewers Say
“This bourbon-barrel imperial brown ale was crafted with specialty malts and unique hops from all over the world. Undertones of fresh American oak and vanilla carry through with not-so-subtle hints of warm maple syrup and melted caramel sweetness that bookend this beer. Be careful when our Big Griz gets hold of you.”
