was developed as a super alpha hop variety by Yakima Chief Ranches in the Yakima Valley. See yakima valley hop region. Because this hop is proprietary, its genetic origins are not disclosed. This variety is characterized by high levels of alpha acids (15% to 17%), low levels of beta acids (4% to 5%), a moderate essential oil content (1–2 ml/100 g), and a low cohumulone content. Warrior has excellent yield potential, is moderately resistant to powdery mildew, and has good storage stability. Warrior has become a favorite bittering hop for brewers wishing to create “double IPAs” or beers with extreme levels of hop bitterness. The hop’s aromatics are piney, with notes of citrus and pineapple, and it can deliver a big punch of bitterness without rough edges.
