What Our Editors Thought
Looks the part—bright pale gold and decent foam, great clarity. Smells the part, too—mellow lemon-lime-herbal Noble hop notes melding nicely with a light, sweet malt purity. Feels substantial on the palate, bringing some sweetness on medium body with a pretty snappy, pils-like bitterness. Leans a bit hoppy and bitter for the style, but I don't mind that from a hedonistic perspective.
What Our Panel Thought
Inviting floral nose, delicate petals. Classic, straightforward aroma layering medium-high levels of earthy-spicy hops over pristine Saltine cracker malts. Some slightly sweet Pillsbury dough malts initiate the sip before dried oregano herbal hops take the reins. Finishes with clean, pronounced bitterness that isn't out of balance; a bit of sweet white bread malt lingers after the swallow.
What the Brewers Say
Brewed with 100% Colorado-grown malt from Troubadour and Root Shoot Maltings, this Helles features a balanced blend of German Hallertau and Czech Saaz hops. Double decocted for rich malt character, then lagered for 6 weeks for a clean, smooth finish.
