What Our Editors Thought
Dry autumn leaves, sassafras, a bit of juniper in the nose. The sip is sheer decadence—silky smooth, low but appropriate carbonation, letting the chocolate notes shine. The confident but nimble heft of a heavyweight boxer.
What Our Panel Thought
Aroma ranges from toasted breadcrust to treacle—roasty, with accents of hazelnut, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, plum, and coffee. Balanced, subtle sweetness in the flavor, roast and caramel with notes of chocolate, praline, sherry. Body is lighter than expected, but the subtlety makes you wish everything was turned up just a few notches.
What the Brewers Say
Our darkest lager, capped by a large stand of cream-colored foam to showcase deep and rich malt aromas of milk chocolate, raisins, and restrained coffee roast.
