The (BMBRI), based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, provides research grants for projects related to the improvement of malting barley varieties, production, processing, and performance.

Specifically, the BMBRI works with Canadian grain growers to produce varieties that will meet the needs of brewers in North America and around the world. They also provide information and resources to brewing industry members who support production and marketing of Canadian malting barley, malt, and beer.

As of 2010, BMBRI members included nine leading North American malting and brewing companies, including Anheuser-Busch InBev, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, and MolsonCoors Canada. Members have access to research work and facilities, and BMBRI represents their interests to barley growers, government bodies, and agricultural policymakers.

Founded in 1948, the BMBRI recognizes the importance of continued support to the scientific community for further work in both basic and applied research that will lead to new developments in malting barley breeding.
