What Our Editors Thought
Bold lychee, kiwi, and yuzu notes on the nose are unapologetic in echoing New Zealand sauvignon blanc. A sweaty tropical funk adds depth. In the flavor, the initially sharp acidity is quickly buffered by juicy tropical sweetness. Acidity is a touch too high. With that under control, this beer could be the Kim Crawford of the craft-beer set.
What Our Panel Thought
Medium tropical fruit-banana aroma. Notes of lime, coconut, kiwi. Mild baked-biscuit notes as it warms. Sharp tartness in the flavor intensifies the fruit character. Hints of coconut and lime. Finish is puckering with a long-lasting sour twang. Fruit expression is definitely the star of the show. Tartness needs to be cranked down.
What the Brewers Say
Barrel-aged Appalachian wild ale with pawpaw fruit.
