What the brewers say

“A blended mixed-ferm tropical stout aged on rum oak staves with vanilla, pineapple, golden raisins, toasted coconut.”

What our panel thought

“Loads of pineapple and coconut jump out of the aroma and are supported by hints of ginger, vanilla, and a touch of brown sugar. Super-intriguing aroma profile. The sharp acidity of the pineapple cuts through the sweetness in the sip and toes the line of overdoing it. The distinct alcoholic heat further sharpens the flavor into the finish, leaving things a bit dry. Great creativity but needs refinement.”

What our editors thought

“Strong cola in the nose, with pineapple and an almost Flanders-like dark-fruit component. The flavor kicks into sweet and thick pineapple up front, rangy and imprecise while overpowering, then settles into a sweet tiki linger.”
