Our Craft-Beer Pairings for Halloween Candy post got us to thinking about the craft-beer reviews by our blind-tasting panels published in Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine™. We remembered several occasions when the reviewers compared the aroma or flavor of a beer to a particular candy. Here are some of our favorite comparisons:

Stone Ruination IPA’s flavor elicited the comment, “Caramel candy in the flavor—Cracker Jacks?”

One reviewer said that Allagash Saison’s sweet aroma was that “of . . . lots of lemon/orange candy.”

Brasserie Fantôme Saison has “tropical fruit aromas of Sweet Tarts, Smarties, or Sour Patch Kids candy.” And the overall evaluation was, “This is candy for adults!”

Ballast Point Wahoo’s aroma is “almost like lemon candy” while Pyramid IPL’s aroma has “notes of fruit gummies.”

Brewfist Spaghetti Western’s flavor is “like a double shot of espresso poured over a melted Hershey Kiss.”

And the overall consensus among the reviewers was that Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin is pure “beer candy.”

Don’t raid the kids’ trick-or-treat stash. Track down a bottle (or two or three) of some adult candy.
